A 1666 was given to me along with a bunch of HO stuff which I will sell and buy Lionel stuff with it. I have not even test ran the 1666 and I am thinking of painting it a metallic silver/grey with red accents. I can't spend a lot. I do have an air brush that I have never removed from the box. I don't want paint that is "sticky" like paint you see on plastic model cars. All of the rest of my steam engines are smaller. I sure like the lines of this 1666 engine. It has a knuckle coupler on the tender so it is post war. What years were the 1666 made?

The 1666 was made in 1946 and 1947. On the 1946 version, the 1666 number on the sides of the cab is on a metal plate. The 1947 version, which is much less common, has the engine number rubber stamped on the sides of the cab.
