I saw a 1946 version of the PRR S2 with big smoke lifters in a Magazine. I thought that would be a nice model in O gauge. I had a raty Lionel 671 in my inventory. So I decieded to change that into a 1946 PRR S2. I got some drawings of the original loco from a friend. I started the modification by changing the body of the 671. I installed the big smoke lifters witch I cut and filed out of brass sheeting. I added 4ea little popup valves on top of the boiler made out of a brass rod. The whistle in front of the cab is also made out of a brass rod. Additional steam pipes are installed on both sides of the body. I inserted Plexiglas in the front cab side windows and the cab doors. The cowcatcher has now a horizontal slot like the original engine. I mounted a working non opening metal coupler in front. The inside of the engine has a convetional light bulb, pellet smoke unit, additional front traction weight, vertical traditional E-Unit and the original motor. The engine was complettly taken a part, cleaned and overhauled. New Parts are: Side rods, side rod screws, brushes, brush springs, smoke stack gasket and much more. the engine runs smoth and quiet with a lot of pulling power.
Tech Data of the engine:
Engine length: 11 1/2"
Engine + Tender length: 20 1/2" (2046 Tender)
Engine weight: 5 lbs 5oz
Engine + Tender weight: 6 lbs 10oz
Minimum curve diameter 54"
Well lets see it, I'm on the edge of my seat.
