Reminds me of the cat we had as a kid. He liked the fiberboard tunnel - thought it made a great hiding place.
Trains didn't bother him, either. Nor did the 18 volts on the track.
Actually the cat pictured, named Rocky, is a pretty mild mannered cat that does little damage.
One of the other cats is an 18 lb. moose of a house cat that I would not want getting mad at one of my locos and fling it off the tracks if I bumped into him. Fortunately he never goes on the train table he just sits on his throne and rules the house.
There was an old Model Railroader joke about using a working rotary snow plow to "clear the line"
Seriously, though. Remove the cat's easy access to the layout surface, and buy a squirt gun. There was a thread a while back on Model Railroader's community that suggested using an electric floor mat in the doorway to the layout room to keep the cat out. Supposedly, once the cat steps on the pad once, the cat gets a mild shock, and will never step on the pad again. After the first time, you can leave the pad off.
An alternative would be to build some kind of cat-gate (unlikely to work unless your cat is de-clawed), or training your cat to keep out of the train room altogether.

KRM rtraincollector KRM I only had to hit ours with a train one time and the problem was solved. He now resides under the table when he is in the room. Tried that mine just looked at the train like and who do you think you are? RT you were not going fast enough. Just pick an engine you can afford to loose in the hit.

It is called the can of food opening.
It only works when the belly is empty.
At least he stopped eating the townspeople.
Oh no! Now that'd be cruel!
PS: Where can I get one?
Railroad Crossings: Thinning the gene pool daily!
Ever try running a train under the Christmas tree with a Basset Hound butt blocking the mainline? Immoveable object indeed! Unless of course there's food involved...
This looks far more effective and safe for protecting the layout and surrounding area from unwanted rhodents. And portable too.
IF IT WON'T COME LOOSE BY TAPPING ON IT, DON'T TRY TO FORCE IT. USE A BIGGER HAMMER.
Mine likes to knock things down and steal figures! lol
Seem to have a problem negotiating some curves on my setup...
If I can figure out what the trouble is I will let all know.
