Ray,

Fife makes a good point. I have the first 218 SantaFe  ALCO I ever got and it was in perfect shape. I had it on display on the wall in Plainfield for 17 years and there was a skylight in the room. I never gave it a thought till I pulled it down and saw that the top of the shell and the side facing out had faded. Sad Crying To boot there was very little time through the year it would ever get direct sun light. Tongue Tied

Fife - I hear ya. Although my layout is only 29" off the floor so when little ones come by all eyes are on the prize. I plan on doing something with the window. There is a tree, not yet in bloom, that offers shade and the branches are 5' from the window so that does help a bit.

BTW, 29" off the floor was done because it's level with my computer desk, which is next to the layout, and my transformers are on the edge of that desk.

Spankybird - I'm digging those icicles on the elevated line.  Do you know if they're commercially available or homemade?

AF53 - Nice little pike you got there.  I would feel uncomfortable with sun fading my stuff through that window.  A nice backdrop on thin plywood would offer you some protection, as well as creating a little "distance".  If you want more layout, think vertically.  Some skirting material along the bottom edge will also keep the eyes focused on the layout top.

Thanks all for sharing.

Since I have limited space for my layout, and the computer is in the room also, here's my 5'6" x 8' layout. It's ever changing, which I like, and it gets used often. Soon I plan on adding a second level for prewar and keeping the bottom for an expanded S Gauge layout.

AF53

Nice pics guys, makes Sunday mornings a bit different.

BigDog Jeff - What's the size of your layout and do you keep it there year round?

I agree with Ray, Nice job guys. I have nothing to add but pictures of the layout in pieces. Smile, Wink & Grin

Finally got around to photographing my York find - a Bing Station - now the tinplate actually has some place to deliver and pick up passengers.
