The TTOS has had a lot of organizational problems in recent years that involved infighting among the people in charge (or perceived to be in charge).  It has resulted in the Southern California branch of the TTOS severing ties with the overall larger TTOS.  I ended up quitting the organization due to this.  So you need to make sure of which group you are joining, the Southern California group or the overall larger organization.  I think the Southern California group is a great group of people and I try to attend their Cal-Stewart show when possible.

Additionally, you should determine if there is an active branch in the area that you live in.  I am in the midwest and there is no active (or very few members) in this area.  So it was somewhat wasteful for me to be in the TTOS.

I'm thinking of joining TTOS and am looking for pros and cons, benefits, etc...  I looked at LOTS but lean more toward the 'toy' aspect of the hobby.

Thank you for your insight.
