Thank you for that.  Took me straight back to a dusty classroom, fifty years ago, and Miss Stanley, who tried to teach us poetry.  It was many years before I really appreciated her efforts.

1700's?  American or British?  The gaffs aren't peaked up too high and the bows are bluff, so I'm guessing the 1780's?
