Does anyone know if there are people at the show who acatually will look at LIONEL products and can repair them right there, or even just look at them to see what repairs might be necessary?

I would like to find that out or find someone in the NW Suburbs or City who does nice repair jobs.

Good question, pkielty.

I am in North Central IL and don't know of anyone here and never been to the show there. Maybe DougM can see he is from Cryatal Lake. You may have to send it out of state. I just don't know. What do you have and what is wrtong? A lot of the guys here can help if they know what the problem is.

Best thing you could do is bring the item with you and ask around.  I know there are people there who sell parts, like Rusty in building 4.

 

I am not sure there is anyone who could repair it on the spot, as most people are there to sell and not to do repairs and often don't have the tools with them to properly do repairs.

Be careful if you ask people about repairing an item at a show.  Some might tell you it isn't worth fixing, and then make you a lowball offer so they can turn around and sell the item.

I had that happen to me with a 1666 steamer and tender.  A seller at the show convinced me it was hopeless, and offered $60.  No sooner had I accepted his offer and he made a dash for the used parts dealer.  He got the needed parts and had the engine and tender on his table for sale that afternoon for $140.  It sold that day.

For that reason, I do all repairs myself now.  If I can't or don't want to fix an item, it gets parted out.  I also part out common items to thin their numbers.
