Make sure the roller pickups and wheels are clean of dirt and oil. Open it up and check that all wires inside are soldered properly and making good contact with the roller pickups and the boards. If all is well, there is a possibility of a bad board.

Yes - I've tried both. It's like everything is frozen or locked.
Have you:
1. Run it with out the tender?
2. Run it with the Smoke Unit turned off?
Jon
The loco to this newish set just won't run. It jumps for very short spurts and the lamp goes out quickly (it just isn't getting continuous power from the track). I'm using FasTrack and run other Lionel sets & other engines just fine. One issue is that I haven't run this loco for months, but it is almost new. It is part of Lionel's freight set #6-30103. Thanks!
