Adding MTH DCS to my legacy control
Posted by JCG on Monday, February 11, 2013 4:43 PM

Hello everyone,

My 9 X 5 O guage railraod is currently in expansion to a 6 x 14 layout. I currently run a lionel legacy with just legacy locomotives. Use the 180 watt power house and direct lockon.  However, I would like to be able to run the MTH DCS locomatives on my new layout. I a have seen some posts on connecting the two systems but no step by step.  Is what I have below the correct way to connect the two hand held systems on the same track? Its step 1 where  need clarification though if something else is wrong please advise? I will also be upgrading the power supply to the MTH Z4000 because I have future plans to add 1 separate conventional line.

1. Connect the MTH transformer to the TIU? Do I also connect the TIU to the track as in the MTH DCS manual or do I just connect the legacy base to the track in step 3?

2. Connect the TIU to the legacy base using the MTH cable 50-1032

3. Connect the legacy base to the track and plug in the legacy power to a wall outlet.

Use MTH handheld for MTH locomotives and legacy handheld for legacy locomotives.

I would appreciate any advice on this matter

Thanks JCG
