after saying how nice it ran a few weeks ago....last night i was running it around like normal...pulling 3 cars....just light scout type...when it seems like it went into neutral...then smoke poured out of it and smelled like plastic lol...the e-unit lever moves really freely...so now what...im thinking of just swapping the motor out...what would be the best...could a use a #237 and have a smoke unit and headlight?
Wow you too??
My 1120's E-unit is junk. Never went up in smoke but was a black eye for Lionel. It don't work for CR%p
Let me know what you do. I boxed mine up and quit running it about 1.5 years ago. I like the Loco but hate the issues.

its really a shame since mine is perfect not a single scratch on it...has grab irons and stuff...ugh we shall see
The motor from the 237 will work just fine, it's the same motor. There is no e-unit in them, so it's not really possible to fix them. It uses a pawl to spin two gear-like wheels with contacts on them. Your problem could be there, but I couldn't tell for sure without being able to look at it in person. I think the best way would just be to put the 237 motor in it and save the aggravation for something else lol
