Although I have been known to tear into a Williams and replace the electronics, for the locomotive you describe I would find someone to help you that has been fixing Williams for greater than 10 years.

Hi,
I bought a non-working Williams Cab Forward. The owner told me that the smoke generator board isn't working and that this precludes the loco from running. He gave me a new controller board that he bought but neither of us knows how to replace the old one. How do I do that? I am pretty good mechanically but I would like to know how to do it correctly. Thank you
