whistle blowing on old lionel engine
Posted by quizshow904 on Saturday, February 2, 2013 8:51 PM

I have an old 682 steam engine and tender from the 50's. I have hooked up with an AMerican Flyer 2290 175 watt transformer and it works fine on my 40 ft loop of track, but it doesn't have a whistle button on the transformer.

How can I activate the whistle? I have other smaller lionel transformers, do I need to hook one of them up or can I use something else? I know the old transformers only had 2 wires and I have 2 wires now, a 17 volt variable and a ground.

Help.

This is all you need for basic whistle operation:

A postwar 167 whistle controller will work as well
