Checked book. Looked for frayed wires. Seems one was butting up against the e-unit, and was shorting out. Separated the wire, put some tape over it. And, everything is working fine. Toot Toot. Ed
Ed,
Pick yourself up a Greenburg's Repair and operating manual for Lionel Trains 1945-1969 From Kalmbach books.
A lot of good info for the money

Hi, I'm back again, but with a different problem, different engine. MY old 1666 won't power up. Check the old wiring, seems o.k. but ratty looking. Probably a short somewhere. How to trouble shoot it? Ed
