Legacy GP7 smoke issue
Posted by Lionel4Life on Friday, January 25, 2013 4:20 PM

Hello,

I've been searching around the Internet and haven't found anyone else with the problem so I figured I would ask here.  Anyway, I picked up one of Lionel's Legacy Western Maryland GP7s about a year and a half ago and up until about a week ago have been very impressed with the engine, especially the sounds.  However, a week ago the smoke unit which had been working beautifully all but quit on me.  The heating element continues to heat up so smoke slowly wafts up out of the stack, but the fan only works some of the time, and even when it does, it works poorly (slow, unsteady).  Also, there's this weird electrical "buzz" sound coming from the front of the engine and low down near the truck when I activate the smoke.  Though I usually run the engine in TMCC (avid TMCC user here) I tried running it in conventional with no luck.  Before I take it into a service center, does anyone have any suggestions as to what may have gone wrong?

Thanks!

-Woody
