Modern Era Lionel GP9 (?) Headlamp Socket Trouble

Log onto my Lionel MPC yahoo group, and in the files section you will find a diagram for the 1970's Geeps.

This will help you see which wires ran where, and the type and position of the bulb holder.

The GP-9 and GP-7 were identical, the GP-20 had a different bulb and holder.

I think I can also get get the socket at my LHS; they said so when I went in to get a couple of the bulbs (expensive? @ $1.50 ea.) 

I'm assuming that the replacement sockets have a lead wire attached?

Without taking the rivet out, you can't fix it. I suggest you just buy a new socket, they're only a couple bucks and it will save a lot of trouble. I buy all my modern parts from Bill at S&W Parts Supply (www.sandwparts.com), unless you already have a prefered dealer

Hi folks,

Have a Lionel GP7/9 in 'Pennsylvania' livery; came with an identical unpowered, unlit dummy. The frame says 'Made in Clemens, Mich, USA. 

I'm trying to get the headlamps working. I've tested the bulbs, one is good. But the wire to the socket came off.

I can't see how I can solder it, as the wire goes inside the plastic, which is a two piece riveted item.

The socket on the other end seems wired, but there is some bad continuity inside the socket. Ground connections are not the problem, it is definitely a problem with the power lead not making a good connection with the socket.

Suggestions?
