Minimum Power Requirements to Operate a Lionel Dash 8, 40-C Diesel?
Posted by ncLARRY on Sunday, December 30, 2012 2:07 PM

Hello All,

I'm new to model railroading and was recently given my first big boy engine, a Lionel Dash 8, 40-C Diesel. I understand that this train has 2 motors.  Can somebody tell me the minimum transformer/power requirements to operate this train? I would love to hear from somebody who operates this model regularly.

Thank You!

Welcome to CTT forum.

I have the Norfolk Southern version of this engine but I converted it to tmcc. to run it just about any transformer should be able to run it on a small oval You have to remember there where engines back in the 50's and 60's that where dual motors and they ran fine on layouts also.

A CW-80 would run it fine.

You have come to a great place to get info and help. There is a bunch of great guys in here and most are willing to comment and help you.
