Redford Theatre Christmas Train Layout 2012-2013

Not sure if I ever made a post about this years display on this forum.

Anyway, it's an 8x16 display in the orchestra pit of the historic Redford Movie Theatre in Detroit (built and operated since 1928). It's an all volunteer organization that has fully restored the theater to it's 1928 splendor, as well as maintains it's original theater pipe organ. I've been helping out there for 4 years now, and this is my 2nd year doing the train display. I had a crew of about 8-10 people help me this year and we put a 10 hour day in a few weeks ago to get it built. Since then, I have probably put another 5 hours into more additions and repairs.

Enjoy

Somewhat famous. I guess CBS did a news story on the White Christmas presentation recently. A couple clips of the trains operating.

I was at the show on Friday evening. Decent sized crowd. At the start of intermission, I headed down to the front but there were so many people for about 5 minutes, I couldn't even get near the control panel to start up my postwar berkshire on the outer loop. When I'm in attendance, I usually bring down a couple of my postwar steamers to run. This weekend my 736, 1946 2020 and 2055 did the honors. It's great to hear people talk about all the memories they bring back, especially the smell of ozone and smoke pellets. Many kids my age or younger as well enjoyed seeing them run. Especially when I had my 736 smoking on JT's megasteam.
