I've not attempted to refurbish an old train until today. Was at a show and picked up a Lionel Sunoco tank car in reasonably good condition (nothing broken) for 5 bucks. Took it apart completely ... rails and all. Cleaned it up and sprayed the frame trucks and wheels with WD40 to eliminate some surface rust. Soaked the body in hot soapy water ... body is clean but the decals are still on. I cleaned off the WD40 with acetone and dried and sanded the frame with very fine grit sandpaper. It's ready for paint. I'm concerned about removing the decals and prepping the body. Any suggestions on how to handle would be appreciated. I bought the appropriate decals but considering painting it a color other than light grey, possibly white. Are there any paints that work best with that plastic??
There was a string in the last year with a member who rebuilt, stripped and painted an old Lionel switcher. Can't recall who ... if anyone knows I'd appreciate a response to this posting.

That was me. I used Krylon Fusion spray paint on the plastic body.
