I’ve mentioned this before, but I bought Realtrax because of the sizes available. I also like the looks of the track but it can’t be pulled apart and reassembled without damaging the contacts. I use mine for my Christmas Display where I’m running 3 trains. I take it apart every year and I get a little tired of repairing the connections.
Also my plug-in wire connector broke immediately after plugging in the 1st wire. I didn’t have the plug and just used the wire wrapped around the post and as I was finger tightening it the whole terminal broke off. I thought the price of these were outrages for what they are and choose to solder short wires under every 3 ft of track intead and then I connect those to a feeder running around the layout.
I do not have any switches and I cannot comment on them
HI THERE
THIS is my experience , not my opinion.
MTH has great track for permanent layouts. The connectors (brass loops) tend to break if you pull the track apart ALOT ! The switches were good for me . the 90 & 45 degree crossings were good as well .
Please Note I switched to Lionel Fast Track , Because I change my layout ALOT !!!!!! The connectors handle my changes very well !
P. S. I plan to make a permanent layout with MTH track so I can charge my Proto 1 batteries !
Yes I plan for four layouts , HO (TEMP LAYOUTS), On30 (Permanent), Lionel fast track (TEMP LAYOUTS) , & MTH Realtrack (permanent).
CHARTER MEMBER OF THE MILWAUKEE FALLEN FLAG MODEL TRAIN CLUB . I COLLECT HO, N , O-3rail & On30 Trains & run them ! I Use KATO HO & N scale Track . I also Use Lionel Fast Track ! I change track layouts Often !
