Lionel sc-2 and Atlas Switches

I am not well versed in Lionel O, as I am a HO scale guy. Been doing that for over 50 years. I also love the O scale trains around the Christmas tree as it is a family tradition. I use O-72 Atlas track as I have both HI rail and Lionel trains. I bought these two O-72 Atlas switches and a Lionel SC-2 Controller as I use TMCC to operate some of my newer Lionel engines.

Can I power the Atlas switches as shown in the SC-2 instruction manual? The drawing says it is for NJ1 switces, but I think they mean NJI (with the I being for IMPORTS) which is the one of the popular twin coil switch machines, and has been ever since I can remember. They were used on Hi Rail layouts as well as HO layouts.

If I connect it as shown in the instructions will I have to power the SC-2 with the wall transformer included. They show the center contact going to the A and the common of the twin coils going to the U...that part I understand, but will that power the electroics of the SC-2?

The other Hi Rail set up is for a switch machine like the Tortise which is run on DC and the polarity determines the direction the switch is thrown, hence the diodes. I am sure that is not the set up for the Atlas switch machines. In that set up they show the wall transformer being used, so you would think that they would show it in the twin coil set up if required, but since they show a resistor value in V rather than Ohms I am not sure their manual is correct.

I did check the Lionel Trains. com website to see if I ould get some direction, but no luck.

Would a well versed Atlas Track user give me some advice?

Thanks for constructive input.

Here's a thread in this forum about that very issue: Atlas switches with the Lionel SC-2
