It is a protosound dcru set, and it has only one switch on bottom for forward and reverse. Thank's Dick

You may have to take it to a dealer and have them reset it, or your battery may be dead.. Lionel transformers will not play nice with MTH.

Would help if you gave more information, like does it have Proto Sound one or two(PS-1 or PS-2)? Do you have the parts number for the engine? This will help as MTH made a couple of versions of their engines, some engines have switches underneath for direction control but most new engines have circuit board direction control inside the engine itself.
