The Lionel 168 controller has two binding posts on the top. Wire it in series with the wire coming from the transformer to the track. The other wire from the transformer goes to the track. The Train 1 button on the left will control the magic electrol locomotive. The Train 2 button on the right will interrupt track power and control a locomotive with an e-unit just as a reverse button on the transformer would. If you have the instruction sheet for the 232 and 233 prewar engines it explains how to use and hookup the 168 controller.
The 168 controller is connected just like the 167 whistle controller. The magic electrol works by using the whistle relay in the loco to change the e-unit. If your 168 is not working you can use the whistle control on your transformer to control the magic electrol loco.
Do any of you have the wiring diagram for the 2 train magic electrol layout in the 1941 catalog using the 168 controller. I have the controller and the 1663 with the 2201T tender & the 1666 engine. I want to build that layout. Thanks for any help.
