Jay,  From the description of your post, specifically the color being brown dates your 150 loco (Type IV) was built 1917, and same color Pullman cars (Type II) built the same year.  These items were listed under Set # 160, referenced from "Doyles Standard Catalog of Prewar Trains.  As far as value, it comes down to what you consider the condition.  From the Catalog pricing, it states a value of $100 vg to $130 excellent for the 150 Loco, and a value of $40 vg to $55 excellent for each Pullman car.  If you consider them to be in VG condition, the value of the cars alone would put you in the range of $180.  Having the set box would increase the price, also depending on condition.  That would most likely put you in the range of $150-$225 for the overall package.  It all comes down to your personal decision of the condition, and what you are willing to pay.  The other "Types" of what you are considering, are just different colors, and some that had 6 wheel trucks vs. 4 wheel trucks.  Hope this helps you decide.

Lionel brown pre-war 150 with set box

Hello all,

I have found an early o-gauge Lionel set and was hoping someone could help me out with a reasonable price to offer for it. Here are the details:

"Pre-war. Includes original set box. Set box is early teens to 1920s. Set includes 150 locomotive in unusual chocolate brown colour, and two 600 chocolate brown pullman cars.
Little Jeff toy transformer.
10 pieces of O-gauge track.

Locomotive and Cars show minor disturbances but overall good condition. Nice matching set in a very unusual color and hard to find condition. Approx 1918-1925."

The paint is pretty rough and I'm not sure if it runs. I have posted photos in the gallery. Let me know what you think. Thanks.
