Restoration of Lionel 2408,2409,2410 Passenger cars- Dry transfer letters/numbers, window silhouette

Bought of Ebay, set was painted twice with different decals, used Castorl Suoer Clean  cleaner and degreaser to strip off paint, only took 1 hour, must wear gloves, eye protection, little or no fumes and biodegradable dont use aluminum pan, will eat it, plastic bowl ok.  I need to know what style and size font for the lettering and numbers ( know their blue ). Also replacement dome, silhouette's for the cars. Tried Olsen but site is down. Anybody got a link ?

Thanks Mark

Hi, Mark.  Try this link-- http://woodlandscenics.woodlandscenics.com/.  I've not used their products, but it was recommended to me.   When I stripped a Maplewood car of 2 layers of olive drab paint, I used OVENOFF.    Sprayed & soaked over night in a plastic bag, the paint came right off the next day.

I buy transfer film from Papilio Digital Media --http://www.papilio.com/ and print my own decals.  I find it works best if I print the lettering before strip a car.  That way I can print the decal on plain paper full size & match the type to the original both for size & type.  I frequently use MS WORD Arial for block letters and Times New Roman for serif letters but I use others.   I use whatever is closest for numbers.  Blue color shouldn't be a problem.

When I lettered (3) 2623/2624, IRVINGTON/MANHATTAN cars, I bought stamps because I wanted a correct  match.

There are a number of sellers on eBay that provide decals and dry transfer lettering from time to time, but I think they are expensive.
