Remove rust from lionel 2046w Tender body
Posted by markd78 on Tuesday, October 30, 2012 10:26 PM

Doing a resto on a 2065 w/a 2046W, the tender has rust on the plastic body, what will remove the rust, or am I getting another tender shell ?

Thanks, Mark

If it is truly rust, it has to be a rust stain from another source.  Plastic doesn't rust.  I suspect some common household cleaners would do the trick.  Maybe just plain old soap and warm water with a toothbrush.

Good luck...

I'll second the soap and toothbrush method. Always seems to work for me, except don't scrub too hard as it can leave scratches in the paint.

Yeah soap and warm water. But be sure and avoid the lettering.i've rubbed lettering off before without noticing until it was nearly gone.So be careful.
