Is it possible to install a Proto 1 sound board in non-powered a unit? I have an extra Proto 1 unit I would like to put in the dummy of a Williams F-3 unit. If anyone can shine some light on this that would be great.

Can't stop working on the railroad!
If I was going to for a sound system I would look at what Lionel uses to do railsounds on conventional engines a good source to check this all out would be boxcar bill he's a parts distributor for Lionel and gives a discount over what Lionel advertises where most I dealt with are the same price as to what Lionel advertises here is a link to his website

I have checked this option and it isn't any better than where I am at now with this thing. Williams by Bachman just released a prime mover and other sound board for their diesels and chances are they'll be easy to hook up like the TBII.
I actually thing you'd be a bit better off trying to track down an old RailSounds diesel sound freight car. You wouldn't need to wire anything and the sound would be better than PS-1.
