I have a Lionel new york central flyer train set that I am planning to elevate it to the ceiling or wall, sometime this year. I am seeking advice for the layouts construction. Should the layout be mounted to the wall or the ceiling??
My room is 10 ft by 10 ft and I am hoping to achieve the completed layout for under $100.
The track is Lionel 0-27 and the transformer is a lionel 80 watt transformer.
Home depot and lowes are a few miles from where I live, so acquiring the layout material is not a problem. Any advice will be helpful
Thanks

wall studs would be a much more uniform way to attach the shelving. you can pretty much count on finding a stud every 16" or 24" on all four walls whereas ceiling joists would be running parallel to your track on two walls.
one primary goal you should have would be to make your wiring bulletproof. you really don't want to debug problems that far out of reach. i'd go as far as attaching a 16-18ga feed to every track section. no problem hiding a good 14ga bus around the entire loop to provide the taps.
good luck...gary
I used 1" x 8" to build mine and 4" L brackets from lowes/home depot. My room is actually 16' x 14' you can take a ride in the cab with this youtube video I made by putting the camera on a flat car in front of my NYC PA-1's

and this one will show you the train going by you as I put the camera on the shelf this is acually A-A-B-B with an NYC boxcar and seven 17" passenger cars
