That is exactly what i was looking for. Do you have a pic of the underside? Is there a part number? What kind of toggle is it? Thanks Mike

There are 1.37" straight sections with a gap and a jumper under them to create an isolated power district.

Here's one I put a toggle switch and an indicator LED on for sidings on a carpet layout.

So i found some insulating center rail posts on ebay. I am guessing with fastracks i can not use these to insulate the track. So would there be pieces for the fastrack? Or would i have to cut out the center pins to form a gap in the center rail? Thanks Mike

I am using an mrc tech 2 throttle for the round the tree layout. I plan on having a yard that an mth sante fe dash 8 will sit on with some freight cars. I also have another swithch on that lead that will sit a couple alco units. On the main layout will be a loop with a siding for a couple box cars to sit. At the front will be an inside loop where a passanger station will sit with a 2056 steam engine and a 3 passanger cars. The passanger line i also want to be able tomshut power off to when i run the santa fe freight train around the outer loop. Have i confused you yet? :0) Mike

Wire all the outside rails together (except for control rails that throw turnouts automatically) and to the common terminal of your transformer(s).  Put gaps or insulating pins in the center rail to isolate the center rails of as many sections as you would like to be able to control independently.  Connect each section of center rail to the middle terminal of a single-pole-double-throw-center-off (SPDT-CO) toggle switch.  Connect all of one switch terminal together and to a variable transformer output.  Connect all of the other switch terminal to another variable transformer output.

Now you can assign each section to one transformer control, or the other transformer control, or turn it off.

If you can tell us what transformers and track you are using, I can be more specific about the connections.

First to help us be more correct on the answer please tell us what track your using ( IE Lionel fastrack, MTH realtrac O-27 ect) as it can be a different answer per type of track.

P.S. Welcome to CTT

Track wiring question
Posted by rs2mike on Thursday, July 19, 2012 7:20 PM
Getting ready for the winter layout. I would like to have a dead track or two to keep engines on. For instance i have a passenger train at a station on an inner loop and while that sits there i run a freight train around the outer loop. I have a siding that i want to park one or the other and the inner loop to park the other. So how would i insulate these tracks. I am new to this so a wiring for dummies edition would be helpful. I am guessing there will be an electrical switch in there somewhere. Thanks in advance Mike
