I bought a RTR MTH-Lionel Corp. standard gauge set last Christmas. I was wondering, does anyone else produce new standard gauge trains? I am planning on getting some additional cars (maybe two) and track for this Christmas' layout. Or is MTH the only one with equipment and accessories in this size?
The set I bought was the no. 386 Outfit Freight Set, page 7 in the 2011 Lionel Corp. catalogue. I bought it because of the review in Classic Toy Trains Magazine. It made quite a hit under the tree.
There are (I believe) one or two companies that make reproduction standard gauge accessories, but AFAIK MTH are the only ones making actual trains. American Flyer and Ives were eventually taken over by Lionel, so when Lionel leased their name to MTH to make reproduction trains, they could also allow them to use the Ives and American Flyer names.
What does AFAIK mean?
I kind of figured MTH was the only manufacturer since I couldn't find anyone else. I couldn't even find other accessory manufacturers. I must say I was quite pleased with the quality of the product.
AFAIK (internet slang) As Far As I Know
Thanks.
I must say I was quite pleased with the quality of the product.
Yep, I bought the MTH Standard Gauge Milwaukee Hiawatha set about 10 years ago or so. A very nice running set, it is the around the Christmas Tree set.
