allright guys got my problem figured out cleaned and lubed everything and blew out whistle housing with compressed air tryed whistle and again not very loud and very sluggish then i noticed contacts were not lining up properly so i made a slight adjustment and wow what a difference that little adjustment made thanks guys for your help.
The wiring should be as CW said. To make your whistle louder and better you need to clean the brushes and armature face, and oil both motor bearing areas. Make sure too that the rollers are not badly grooved and spray some electronics cleaner inside the rollers until clear fluid comes out. Many of these old tenders have badly cracked or missing wiring. Sometimes you may find someone replaced the wires with thick, not very flexible wires. There are some vendors selling the right type wires.

As far as I know, Postwar (1945-1969) Lionel whistling tenders left the factory with two collector rollers, one on each truck. There should be two wires coming out of the bottom of the tender, one connected to each roller. Two rollers were used to avoid loosing power over dead spots, such as uncoupling magnets, cross tracks, and switches. Even dirty areas on the track could cause a dead spot.
im a newbee so please forgive my lack of knowledge of use of correct terminology i have a 1952 version of the lionel 2025 and the 6466w whistle tender, i have the 1033 transformer which i am replacing the rectifier disc with a 6 amp diode. my question is ive noticed on ebay and other places that the wiring on the tenders has been differently on some these that is the 2 wires coming out of the bottom of the tender are either hooked together and go to only 1 of the pickup rollers or each 1 is going to the front and the back does this create more efficient/louder whistle or does it really make a difference. thanks guys for your help.
