I finally bought my first Lionel 3r with and fastrack with remote switches. After drooling over them when i was a kid and got a Tyco HO frieght set instead due to cost. And my GF's 10 yr is usually guled to it when im using it. Are there any HO starter sets with lots of action. When we were at a train store he picked out a operating crossing for Ho. Or is O and S gauge the only ones with operating cars
Operating accesories are few and far between in the 'realistic" world of HO scale. About the only manufacturer to go heavily in that direction was Tyco, and their train sets were considered "cheap junk" by serious model railroaders anyway. The link below will give you an idea of some of their offerings. It's been years since I've seen Tyco products in an LHS, eBay is probably your best bet for this stuff.

I have figured out what is wrong with my brain! On the left side nothing works right, and on the right side there is nothing left!
Life-Like (now owned by Walthers has operating accessories
I don't know if there are others still in production. Train shows frequently have lots of out of production products so you may find some things there.
Good Luck
Paul
I see you got some good advice from here so far and another idea and it takes you back to ebay is Lionel did some operating accessories back in the early 60's maybe late 50's also in HO but to get the best help I would go over to model railroader side of this site as there basically HO and n scale
Life's hard, even harder if your stupid John Wayne

sorry think your wrong there V8 unless they have changed drastically. As most would see you as starting and they would be more to encourage you. Now they may try to steer you toward different venues in HO but don't think they would scoff at operating accessories knowing it was getting a child interested in the hobby. I use to hang out there about 3 years ago when Fergie was there and inch was a regular, along with flip jerry cox and duke. I know a lot of the old timers when I was there don't seem to come in there to much any more. And time have changed in there I'm sure.
