Hi , i think i found the problem. I took the motor out of my MTH 9E and put it into the MTH 400E locomotive that was running very slow at full power. Guess what it ran so fast it almost fell off the track, Had to power back almost half way. Even with the 4 cars added on it still runs super fast. Funny thing is i bought this over two years ago and never ran it until i built my new layout. I am sure my other McCoy loco i have has the same problems , it runs slow at full power to. Do you know anyone who rebuilds these build-a loco motors. Thanks again for your reply. craig
Along with the above concerns I'm wondering also about the size of your wire and the number of lockons spread around your layout.
It sounds like you either have a problem with the transformer or with the electricity travellling through the tracks since all your locos are having the same issues. I only have one Standard Gauge set, the MTH Hiawatha passenger set. It came with a 100 watt transformer which supplies more than enough power to operate the passenger set. First I would check to see what the wattage is around your track to see if you are getting the power that your transformer is putting out.

Hi , i.am new here to the forum so here goes. I ,am running three standard gauge trains on my layout which is 8' x 6'1/2 . I have two new MRC 270 WATT Transformers. If i put more that three or four cars on each one they slow down and almost stop at full throttle. I have two MTH AND ONE MCCOY LOCOMOTIVES. Both MTH are new and the mccoy is rebuilt and like new. Anyone have an idea is to what i can do. Thanks , craig.
