Your memeory is not fuzzy and you weren't dreaming this set does exist. It is an ICE train, you can buy it from Allied Model Trains here in So Cal 310-313-9353. I was there a couple of weeks agao and they still had them. They do mail order but you have to call them. They have it on display in the fron t of their store.

Can't stop working on the railroad!

Can you identify this Computerised Toy Train?

Some 15 -20 years ago I saw a very nice toy train running at a local toy store.  My memory is a little fuzzy on the exact details. It looked like a TGV or Bullet style passenger set.  It was battery operated and ran on plastic track.  It had flashing red & green LED lamps.  I seem to remember it was slightly larger than N gauge.

What made it unique was it had an internal computer and some kind of optical sensor in the bottom of the locomotive.  By placing various colored inserts between the track rails the train could be programmed to perform any number of operations: pause, stop, reverse, forward, etc.  This really provided a lot of play value.  I assumed at the time it was some kind of a high end Japanese or German import and it was priced acordingly.

A freind of mine is a life-long train buff and he recently suffered a stroke.  This toy would be ideal to help him recover his co-ordination and logical thinking while he's on the mend.

I've written to several hobby shops, both domestic and foreign, but so far nobody can identify it.  Can any of the Toy Trains Group provide a little help as to what it is?
