MTH Proto 2 lash up I think?
Posted by RRaddict on Monday, May 14, 2012 9:10 AM

I have 2 MTH F-3 SF Proto powered locomotives and a B unit.  Purchased aone A and one B unit separately.  Is it possible to lash these up to run together?

If you have "Proto 2" (or Proto 3) the Proto boards are in the "A" units only.  The "B" or "booster" unit can be dummy or powered and plug into any one of the "A" units.  In a  "Lashup" the "B" unit is not part of the setup.

With an A-B-A Lash Up   -   Engines on the track and powered

PS 2 remote,  press Menu , scroll down to Advanced and press enter,  press Create Lash Up,  press MTH Lash-Up,   press Add Engine,     scroll to your lead engine in the menu and enter,    Head Engine enter,     Forward (direction) enter,    Add Engine and press enter,    scroll to your trailing "A" unit in your menu and enter,       scroll to Tail Engine and enter,    Reverse (direction) and enter,   scroll down to Lash-Up Name and type in what you choose.   When done Press green "ENG" button, your "Lash-Up" should be listed.   Both engines operate as one unit at one address.

This will work even if the A units are both proto 2.0 with out the B unit or do I need to connect the B unit up too?

"B" unit not needed.     As long as you have both "A" units in the "Remote"menu, even if they have the same cab numbers, the Remote assigns a different number to each in the "ENG" list.  As MTH sets engine speeds in "scale miles per hour" for all engines, you can lash-up any two or three engines, steam with diesel, steam and steam, any grouping.

I run MTH/DSL "G" gauge diesel  locomotives in pairs, nose forward or back to back, all the time.
