Sound issues
Posted by Seayakbill on Thursday, May 10, 2012 11:55 AM

Just wasn't a good week for the sound chips in 2 of my locos .

Earlier in the week the sound chip went kaput in my MTH PS-1 Northern Pacific Mallet. The steamer is about 15 years old, one of the early articulated steamers from MTH so I guess I can't complain.

Then today the Lionel Railsounds chip went Kaput in my Atlas SP&S F-3. This unit is only around 4 years old so a little irked that it did not last longer.

So the Mallet will get a PS-2 upgrade and the F unit will be heading to the shop for replacement.

One advantage with Post War locos, no electronics to go kaput on ya.

I have had the same thing happen to me last year "sound went kaput" on my Lionel / Flyer #800 4-8-4 (see photo below).

I replaced it with the True Blast II Whistle & Bell sound card with the Lionel speaker.

I'm sticking with the old Post War locos, with no electronics. You can add the sound that you like and can afford.  I know why people collect tains rather than run trains on there layouts now. You just don't want to know the problems that await, when you open that model train box now days!

I installed sound into the American Flyer #660 Combination Car with True Blast II with smaller DHB28-Box Speaker that is an 8 ohm, self-enclosed, with great sound
