Is the trade worth it
Posted by RRaddict on Monday, April 23, 2012 9:23 AM

I need some feedback here.  I have a Lionel C-420 Monon Deisel with TMCC and Railsounds.  It runs and sounds great except it is a weak smoker even after modifying the smoke unit.  There is a guy that wants to trade me a MTH BNSF Green/Orange premiere locomotive for it straight across.  The MTH looks and sounds great but has no box while mine looks like I just bought it including the extra traction tires and unopen tube of smoke fluid. Is the trade worth it?

No

Would you trade a nice Cadillac whose sunroof doesn't work for a Yugo?

Kevin, The Lionel C-420's are real workhorses.

What do you want to do, they are just toy trains.

Bill I did the trade and it was the best decision I have made concerning trains in a long time.  If I knew how to post pics I would.  It runs strong, smokes up a storm, and fits in with all the other Proto 2 stuff I have.

Sounds like a winner, the BNSF in the pumpkin paint scheme, IMO, is one of the best paint combinations available.

If I knew how to post pics I would.

Just load the pictures up to a free Photobucket account, select the IMG copy from the dropdown at Photobucket and paste it here.  Easy...peasy...

With the exception of the "Executive" and "Warbonnet" paint schemes, I  haven't cared for any of the paint schemes they have had since dropping the Classic Cascade Green and Black, but that's just my opinion tooSmile, Wink & Grin

The OP didn't really give enough info to make an educated choice. Does the MTH Premier locomotive have PS2?, Loco-Sound? NO sound? Early Premiers were available with no sound, I gave my Step-Son a Premier SD60M that has no sound, I'm a Union Pacific guy myself, but He really likes the Cascade Green and Black.

It was not even mentioned in the OP, if the poster had a DCS system, TMCC, neither or both.

I am always leary of someone suggesting a trade, they wouldn't generally be  offering if they thought that their side of trade was more valuable.

In the end the trade was a winner for the OP, and I'm Glad that he was Happy with the results.

Here is the exact Locomotive 20-2370-1.  I am a UP, SF, and BNFS guy for my diesels.  The Monon C-40 smoker was weak and sound so so. I think for once I got the better end of the stick.
