I used 1/2 inch ply and then covered that with ceiling tiles (the 2 x 4 kind), you can cut them into strips to cover ply that you use for inclines and declines. I then used the Woodland Scenics foam to create the taper for the ballast.

The key is to NOT screw through the ceiling tile into the ply.

Track Roadbed Ideas - Cork or Foam?
Posted by ccilarry on Thursday, April 12, 2012 12:08 PM

Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions for roadbed?  I found the Midwest Products Cork and I have found the Woodland Scenics Foam.  I am using plywood for the track base for inclines and ramps.  I used homasite board for the larger flat areas.
