I think you'll get a better response if you repost your question in the Classic Toy Trains forum.  The Classic Trains forum deals with prototype railroading.

Try contacting Jeff at the train tender jeff@ttender.com he might have a substitute if he doesn't have the exact part.

Ed,

What is wrong with your original pilot?

The correct part number for the pilot is 8506-15 according to the service manual here.

Hi Larry

There is none on the engine I also need the 2 rods with the linkage attached to them and the front coupler thats attached to the pilot again the engine looks new maybe not even run and its in the orginal box too maybe I should just list it on ebay as parts or sell it off as parts I will never find the pilot Jeff the train tender  has the rods and coupler but not the pilot looks to be like a dead issue Ed

There is another loco that seems to be similar to yours, #8310. The parts seem to be the same, but have different part numbers. The pilot (cowcatcher) for the #8310 is 8310-15, and The Train Tender has that part in stock. It may fit your engine. For 2 bucks, its worth a try.

I found your part you need.  Plank's train repair located in Liberty, Pa., phone 570-404-2060 or website at www.planksmodeltrainrepair.com and click on the link to Lionel Parts Inventory.  It is really really expensive at a whopping $2.00 for the pilot.  And for the benefit of others that may read this post, if the usual parts dealers don't have  a part, try a GOOGLE search with the item you are looking for.  Start the search first with putting what you need inside Quotes.  Example would be "lionel 8506-15" in the search.  If that looks too restrictive, do it again without the quotes, and you will get multiple hits.  That is how I found the above part from a parts dealer I never knew existed.  He doesn't have a lot of parts, but this time was Pay Dirt for the Pilot needed.
