Looking for ideas for trolley platform
Posted by southernrr on Friday, March 23, 2012 7:07 AM

After searching the net and seeing very few options for O scale, I am hoping some of you might have other ideas in either a manufactured or scratch built trolley platforms.

Pictures and/or links would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Sure this is not what you had in mind. But all it is is 1X2 wood for uprights and a long 1X2 across the top. The bottom is luan wood 6 inches wide and 8 feet long. Placed right behind the Christmas board.

DADA1043, I checked your website and did not see any platforms.  Please email me with the specs and pricing for each unit and whether custom sizes can be made.

Thanks

Was there ever a trolley car that used a platform?  They, like buses, generally incorporate stairs going down close to the ground.

A couple of years ago I started designing and planning to rebuild my oldest layout from the simple flat ovals I built back in the 90's into something better.  The plan called for the 9 by 16 table to become a representation of downtown Cleveland and the industrial flats along the Cuyahoga river.  In researching the subject, I came accross photos of the red tile roofed 6 sided streetcar platforms we once had.  Some were simple roofed platforms while others were elaborate enclosed structures with a European "Fachwerk" (exposed wood beam) construction like you see in pictures of alpine villas.  This photo from 1917 shows 2 of them.

When I start building them for my layout I plan to use the Marx model as my base since it has a similar shape.

Good point, Bob...  I just figured I would need somewhere for the passengers to either sit or stand and not have everyone standing on the steps waiting for the next trolley...
