Waxing a GG-1
Posted by arkady on Thursday, March 22, 2012 2:13 PM

I've just acquired a new-in-original-box 4935 Lionel MPC PRR GG-1.  Really a beautiful locomotive, and I'm wondering what would be the best way to protect its glossy finish.

I'm thinking a high-quality liquid automobile wax, applied with very little rubbing.  But could this damage the stripes (I know enough not to pick it up by the sides!)?

Has anyone ever experienced a problem with applying automotive wax to a modern Lionel gloss finish?

Thanks.

Well, since no one replied to my question, I will answer it myself, for the benefit of anyone who's wondering.  I applied the wax carefully, with a Q-tip, then waited till it was dry and gently buffed it with a soft cloth.  No problems.
