I have a Central of Georgia GP-9 number 126 that is suddenly started derailing on it's front end truck everytime it enters a curve. This is the truck under the cab. It acts like it's binding somehow. There does not seem to be enough play in the truck to allow it to move through a curve. Does anyone else have this problem and, if you did, what did you do about it?
Thanks.
George
A little more info would help. Brand of loco? Is the front truck powered? My first guess would be in the wiring to the motor if it is a power truck. Can you take the body off and run the loco to see if that cures the problem? If so it would likely be wiring or something else binding inside the cab when the truck swivels. I had this problem with a Weaver RS-3.
I have similar problem with newer diesels on O-31 curves. The lead truck tends to "walk" off the rail. Try "stretching" the trucks, by rotating them back and forth to there maximum turning points, before running them. Quick fix.
Thanks for the replies. The brand is Lionel and both trucks are powered. I tried working the truck back and forth by hand, it seemed to help some, but I still have the problem.
You're not going to beleive this but, I ran the engine for 36 minutes last night with no problems at all. All I did was to manually work the front truck back and forth for a couple of minutes and dab some Lubriplate grease on the top of the truck on each side. Go figure.
When the fix is that quick and that easy......

IF IT WON'T COME LOOSE BY TAPPING ON IT, DON'T TRY TO FORCE IT. USE A BIGGER HAMMER.
Lubrication is essential for any rolling stock, including locomotives.
