Lionel fastrack operating track section
Posted by lionel1666 on Monday, March 12, 2012 10:03 AM

Hello everyone. Hope all is well. About 8 months ago I purchased a new Lionel 6-12054 operating track section off of ebay. The controller for this track has been a complete failure. It worked about the first three running sessions then after that I have had to work on it every time or use it with some or none of the functions working as they should. Is there a revision for this controller out or is there another controller that I can buy that works better. This has been the most dissapointing piece of lionel equipment I have ever owned or used. As always I am open to any and all suggestions. Thanks.

How did you determine the controller was the problem?  I do not know what is in the FasTrack controller, but the older postwar controllers just had a stack of spring contacts and were pretty reliable, unless someone got in there and messed up the works.

Have you checked the connections under the track to insure that they are all secure?  Also, are you using track power or an axillary power source?  Some dump cars require nearly a full 18 VAC to activate and some couplers also require a large voltage to uncouple.

Good Luck...

I ohm the wires and determine what is making connection. It is a stack of spring contacts like you said. I am using track power but as long as the controller is working I have no problem with the cars operating. I have tried rebending the contacts, building different shim stacks, and have had success but only for a very limited time. Thanks.
