Thanks Don,

I have the instructions but it does not cover the lower armature bearing and gears and that is where I have had dryness issues with my N&S Dash-8 40C. Got to go deeper.

Well I went ahead and opened it up today and GOOD for Lionel they left enough wire that I did not have to splice a jumper in to pull off the brush plate. As I thought it was kind of dry down there but all is good now. Put an houe of run time on it ½ hour in each direction

Looks like I am good.

Thanks guys,

Kev

Try this to download and print the "Owners Manual" for your engine.  Your engine will be at the BOTTOM of the page, click on it, it includes the lub instructions.

Well I think I am going to go ahead and cut the coil wires and add a jumper wires so I can remove the brush plate to get at the lower drive gears as well. My other Dash 8 was dry on those gears and started making noise. You can't get at them without pulling the brush plate. Then I will know it has all been done. Maybe tomorrow,

 Thanks guys,

 Kev

You only have to flip the LIONEL DASH 8 locomotive over to see the trucks.

Put lube grease on the gears and drip oil on the exposed axles, then it should run smoothly.

On a new loco I always grease the gears and oil the rollers before running

CSX Dash 8-40C #6-18214 ?? NIB

I got my E-bay buy today. It is a CSX Dash 8-40C #6-18214. It is NIB and has never been run.

Super nice I think for $137.00. My question is because it was made in 1994 should I take it apart and do a lube job on it or wait till I run it in some first?

I have it’s sister in the N&S colors and have had it apart since I got it last year so I know the drill. Just wondered if I should do this before I put it into use.

 What do you guys do?

Tks,

Kev
