you have all been so helpful since i joined this forum....i want to thank everyone before i go on, my favorite loco... PRR 8471 postwar nw2...with pullmor motor came screeching to a halt last nite. on closer inspection i found the drive shaft slipping inside the main drive gear on side of truck. i have tried locating either a powered truck,or replacement parts...no success. has anyone EVER had any success with finding parts on lionels website??? talk about a frustrating experience..anyway, if anyone knows a good source for parts...either a complete poweredtruck, or one that does not run,but has good shafts n gears on powered truck...please let me know...if any of you have one for sale,i will send my email address and pay for shipping and item thru paypal. or i can send a money order. thanks again...
The drive gear is #8010-116, the worm axle is #8010-190, and the plastic (ugh!) worm wheel is 8010-115 The parts are available from The Train Tender, who also has a brass replacement for the plastic worm wheel. Recommend you get the brass gear.

thanks Larry!!!! this is what i mean.....you folks are outstanding!!!!! ty all again...
The parts are easy to get, but they are difficult to install. The truck staking has to be ground/filed/distorted to replace the axle.
It's easier to bond the nylon gear(s) to the axle in place, I use CA glue after thorough cleaning with non-residue contact cleaner.
It is possible to replace the 8010-116 nylon gear with a 600-111 steel or brass gear without disassembling the motor truck. You just need to fashion a mandrel to fit up into the truck on the opposite side to press the gear on.

actually Rob, i have replaced the nylon drive gear once about 4 yrs ago..when i pressed it on shaft,it didnt feel tight...the gear was a new one i purchased at a train show...anyway i used PC-7 on the shaft and over face of gear, hoping it would hold as long as i ran the loco...however, that idea has been short-lived...this is why i thought i had better replace the shaft and the gear this trip.!! where would i find this CA glue?? hobby center? thanks for the help..
If you do this repair again, distress(score/indent) the axle so the gear has something to bite into. Using a quality pair(Craftsman/Vise-Grip) of needlenose locking pliers, you can imprint splines into the shaft with the jaws if you have the hand strength.
CA is Cyanoacrylate, and you want the standard water-thin type sold as "Super Glue"(we always referred to it as "Eastman 910"). This type will flow into the mating surfaces by capillary action for a secure bond.
When you have an MPC engine using the nylon gears, they run quieter if you can retain them. It also saves some wear-n-tear on the spur/idler gears.
Rob is right. Sone several and they held.

ok to superglue...was tired when i wrote about 'ca' glue... and yes...i agree with the idea to try to rebuild "splines' on the shaft with vise grips..thanks

Good luck with your repair.
The 8471 PRR NW-2 is not from the Postwar era. It was made in 1976, part of the Modern era.
ty cw....i stand corrected...what confused me is i have some other 'modern era ' locos...and they are equipped with dc canmotors....thanks
