Presuming the knob is not just loose on the shaft, there are a few things that can cause the problem you explain. The knob turns a shaft with a gear pressed on it. This in turn rotates a sector gear / roller assembly that rolls across the transformer coil. The gear on the shaft could be loose and not turning the gear / roller assembly, or the gear /roller assembly could be loose and not be turned by the shaft. Here is an exploded view of the transformer to help you visualize how it works. You need to open it up to diagnose the problem.

Z Transformer 250 Watts..Need help!!

Hello, I have a Z transformer that has a messed up knob.  The knob just keeps on turning and does not have a defined off and full blast stopping points.  Any ideas on how to fix this??  All knobs put out in excess of 24 volts and do supply power to the track just fine.  But, my C knob just keeps on turning.  Is there a way to screw it so that its tight??  Let me know. Thanks.
