Your Great Northern 4-8-4, #6-3100, was produced as a part of the "Famous American Railroads Collector Series" in1981. It power a 5 car freight set with all cars marked "Great Northern".
Similar sets were produced in 1980 as Union Pacific and Chessie System, both pulled by a post-war type Berkshire. In 1981 Lionel added a 4 wheel pilot truck to the "Berkshire" making it a "Northern" type. The "Berkshire", first cataloged in 1946, is one of Lionels most common locomotives. If you go to the Lionel Web Site below, type in the box "6-28074" and "search". After doing that, go to the bottom of the page and click on "NKP Berkshire" to open the manual to be read or printed.

You should find (and can print) the Owners Manual for a newer version of the AC motor powered Bikshire including maintenance. Look for page 14. Good Luck

I recently purchased a Lionel Great Northern 4-8-4. How do I remove the cab, so I can oil the Pullmor Motor? Any assistance is greatly appreciated.
