I have a fair amount of (Showcase Line) S-Helper track and the Lionel track will mate with it with a little modification. (see the Pictures on another post from Stebbycentral) It may be difficult to find S-Helper straight track but the curves and switches are still available in limited quantities. It definitely looks good and will also mate with traditional Flyer track with adapter pins.
Flyer track with rubber road bed (reproduction road bed is available) is still a viable choice even more so with the availability of large 27" radius curves and rubber road bed to go along with it. It still looks better than O scale three rail track and you can also use Gar-Graves flexible track with it. The only down side is rail height and tie size is not realistic. But it is cheap and plentiful and all Flyer accessories will work with it! And Gar-Graves with added ballast looks good.
I am thinking about building an AF layout to run some AF equipment I have accumulated over the years. The track system I was going to use was the "Showcase" system, but I understand it will not be available until fall. What is another good choice? This will be a fairly small layout, by the way.
