Train Layout
Posted by KEVINK22 on Saturday, January 21, 2012 12:09 PM

Hey All,

Well after three years and a slow pace, my train layout is under way. My dad and i have a 10x11 layout using mostly Lionel Fastrack. We have been working on it for some time as i have said; but it's been slow, and with two small boys not easy to spend as much time on it as we both would like to.  We initally had just a square sized platform with two loops of track; but that all changed as of last Sunday.

We realized that we needed a way to access the layout without having to climb on top of it so we are starting at ground zero. Instead of making a trap door in the middle of the layout we decided to take about a 6" section out for access to the middle of the layout. My layout is in a crawl space in my basement and is only a couple of inches off the ground so clearence from the ceiling is not that high, and with both of us being rather tall we end up having to mostly lay on top of the platform at best. This way will make working a bit more easy on both of us. The track plan is also something we are starting fresh with as well. We need a bit more action than just the trains going around in a circle for the most part. So as of right now it is just the grass mats from Woodland Scenic that is down and we have started to put some cloud paper up to cover the wall on the left side of the layout. I need to get another roll of it to finish the right side. It's not much right now; but once we get under way it should be something special. I hope to post pictures as soon as i figure out how to go about it, as this is my first attempt at posting pictures on a website and i don't really know how too. I will keep you all posted so you can see it step by step while we progress along.

Before i end i would just like to say thank you to you all who have and always continue to share your experences with your layouts. It has truely inspired me to really get back into this hobby and all though i may not be going for realism on my layout i am taking some of all your ideas into consideration while putting my layout empire togther one track at time. Thanks again and have a great weekend all of you!!!
