A video I made today of my new GG1. It outlines some of the features and shows it running. Sorry for the dark video. The speed control was acting up for the video but I've fixed it since then (just reprogrammed the engine #). It runs a lot slower when starting than it did in the video.Enjoy. It's a really cool engine. watch?feature=playerembedded&v=Q3UOoA sN3g
That is very,very cool!
Thanks for posting.
(What does JLC stand for?)
runtime
At the time the JLC series was the top of the line for Lionel and named after ole Josh.
Bill T.
I guess kind of like today's vision line. As Bill said, JLC stands for Joshua Lionel Cowen, a series of top of the line engines made not long before Legacy came into the picture.
Thanks for the info.
Couple of follow up questions: When did Legacy start? What was the control system before Legacy, and what is the difference? Which system is being used to control the GG1 in the video?
I'm obviously ignorant of anything not conventional, but who knows, someday I may take the plunge. The GG1 video certainly perked my interest!

Not sure what the official date is for Legacy, about 3 years ago. Lionel's Legacy operating system replaces Lionel's TMCC operating system which had run its course and was not able to operate the enhanced features of Lionel's Legacy and Vision locomotives. Enhanced sound capabilities, smoke features and movement such as swinging bell are just some of the new features with Legacy.
I think Legacy was introduced in the 2007 catalog. This engine is TMCC equipped and I run it with TMCC.
The TMCC system came out in the 1990's, so it is pretty old technology. Legacy opens new doors when it comes to features. Legacy engines are compatible with the TMCC system, and TMCC engines are compatible with the Legacy system. If you run legacy engines with TMCC, you still have most of the features, just not all. It'll just run like a TMCC engine.
Oh, and Legacy or TMCC engines can also be run conventionally with a transformer. You just don't have features like the couplers (the only feature lost?)
