It didn't make sense to upgrade them if they weren't dead,
Actually it did if you wanted to run the locomotive with TMCC or DCS command control. I have a PS-1 Northern Pacific Mallet that I bought new when first released many years ago, I want to convert it to PS-2, just havn't got around to it. A great running, very powerful steamer in conventional control but I prefer that it was CC. A new CC Mallet will cost you around $800 to a $1000 but PS-2 conversion kit around $200.

I've seen them a time or two over at OGR, but they don't come along all that often. I saw one set last month on eBay as well.
Most of the time people only replaced them when they died. It didn't make sense to upgrade them if they weren't dead, and MTH rolled out PS2 versions of their older stock relatively quickly. The PS1 boards are very finicky, if you let them die down they sometimes will not fire back up. I am planning to pull the boards in my WM GP7 and have offered them to RRAddict, I have not had time to pull them yet, and don't want to till I have time to get the engine onto a track and power it up to ensure the boards are still functional. I hope to have time to do this over the next week or so.RR - You will not find ANYONE offering them for sale because MTH did not authorize over production.
Seems to be one of the mysteries of PS-1 electronics. What happened to em when folks did upgrades to PS-2 or TMCC. You see em once in a while on E-Bay but they are few and far between.
Does anyone have a source for Proto 1 replacement boards and parts. I figure someone had to do something with all thoa=se boards from Proto 2 and TMCC upgrades but according to Mr Google no one has any. Does anyone here have a good source for these parts?
Thanks,
Kevin
